Today I was looking outside my picture window and noticed something peculair.. WOW~! I think it's a praying mantis.. I grabbed my camera and went outside to take a look.. It was so cool. I think this is the first one I have seen at this house. I don't know what he was trying to get but he stayed there for a long time. I read once they like to get hummingbirds..Wonder if that is true.. My hummingbird feeder is not at this part of the yard.. He was very interesting to watch.

Holy Mantis. That is a big mantis.
Don't know if they were talking about that particular mantis, but I read that one Mantis can strip an entire tree of its leaves in 24 hours. What a sight that would be. On a lighter note, the garden variety eat lots of pesky bugs in your garden. We had one that stayed on our front porch for a long time. He camped out near a spider's web. One day I went out there & he was spread eagle stuck on that web, so I rescued him. We did a daily check to see if he was still around. As I was putting my groceries in my car on a HOT asphalt parking lot some pesky weed was stuck to my sock. Looking closer it was a HUGE Praying Mantis. I decided to play rescue. He rode on the passenger door inside the car & the A.C. was blowing his feelers back...he looked happy. As we drove down the highway he began creeping across the dashboard toward me. Then he got on the steering column. Ok, we're a little too close for comfort here. He finally returned to his side of the car & when I got home I scooted him into a grocery bag & ran him back to my flower garden in the backyard. I never saw him again, but when I read the article about the tree stripping variety of mantis I felt bad for my neighbors trees. He must of been the garden variety. The trees are all intact.
